Alphabet and Phonics Course
The alphabet is one of the most important things for children to learn- knowledge of letters and their sounds is key to learning how to read and write. Young children need practice with recognizing both uppercase and lowercase letters, identifying and writing those letters, and understanding letter-sound associations. When you provide children practice with these skills, you help open the door to literacy.
Two of the best predictors of early reading success are alphabet recognition and phonemic awareness. These two skills- knowing the letters and the sounds they represent and being able to identify these sounds with automaticity- are essential for early reading development. This course is full of ideas to help you incorporate alphabet recognition and practice letter-sound associations into your entire day, so that children get maximum exposure to these skills. The units, one for each letter of the alphabet- can be used in alphabetical order or any sequence that meets the needs of your class. Activities include practice and reinforcement in recognizing and identifying letters, forming and writing the uppercase and lowercase versions of the letters, and making connections between the letters and their sounds.
Each unit, covering one letter, includes five days of activities. These include sheets that involve tracing, coloring, cutting, and gluing.
The activities in this course are designed to meet the PreK-1 literacy goals and recommendations established in a joint position statement by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and the International Reading Association (IRS):
-Understands that print carries a message,
-Engages in reading and writing attempts,
-Recognizes letters and letter-sound matches,
-Begins to write.

Numbers 1-10, Adding and Subtracting
This is a bundled set of all of my number units. It includes 30 units, each lasting a week and including 4-6 worksheets. These interactive, reproducible lessons feature appealing art and simple, predictable text to target the numbers 1-10 and key number concepts. Activities include identifying, writing, and matching numbers and number words; creating and comparing sets; counting, taking away and adding more.
This course correponds to the National Council of Teachers of Mathmatics PreK Standards:
-Understands numbers, ways of representing numbers, relationships among numbers and number sysetems,
-Count with understanding and recognize "how many" in sets of objects,
-Develop a sense of whole numbers and represent and use them in flexible ways,
-Connect number words and numerals to the quantities they represent.

Five Week Fine Motor Challenge
Let's flex those finger muscles!
Fine motor movements involve the coordination of small muscles in the hands and fingers. Strong fine motor skills are essential to complete tasks such as writing, cutting, using a fork or spoon, threading beads, moving puzzle pieces, zipping, buttoning, and tying shoe laces. Without well-developed fine motor skills, a child may have difficulty learning to write or performing many of the other critical tasks presented in preschool and kindergarten classrooms.
My fine motor challenge starts out easy, with tracing, drawing and cutting straight lines, to progressively more difficult, such as corners and curves.
Each week, I include 5 worksheets combining cutting, coloring, tracing, writing, and gluing in fun, creative ways that will motivate your child to complete each task. Each week, I provide activities such as Montessori inspired hands-on fine motor practice and art and craft activities- with easy to find and economical objects.
Join me as we start this challenge together! I will support you and connect with you and your child- providing the motivation and consultation to keep you going and successfully complete this challenge! Just think of me as a personal trainer for your fingers!
Up for the challenge? Ready, set, GO!

Word Practice- Complete Word List-
25 words included- 8 pages each
Words and Pre-Reading-
According to educator Robert Hillerich, "Just three words- I, and, the- account for ten percent of all words in printed English." Recognizing this, it is easy to see how critical it is that children have a solid grasp of these and other frequently occurring words, for they will be encountering them time and time again in their lives as readers! The activities in this course support young readers by giving them repeated and varied exposure to 100 important words. As readers acquire a larger bank of words, over time they are able to quickly and automatically read these words not only in isolation but also when encountering them in the context of their reading. This automaticity with words, in turn, leads to even greater gains, because as word recognition skills improve. so does comprehension. Sounding out each and every word takes up time and brain power. The faster children can recognize words, the more time and energy they'll have to devote to understanding the meaning of the words.
This course is a product of my professional experiences over 20 years as a teacher. I have designed it to provide you with a full range of fundamental activities to support early and emerging readers. The activities in each lesson systematically introduce and reinforce important high-frequency words. I have used these same activities to great success with my own students. Each activity is presented in a simple layout that is both easy to understand and fun to complete, promising to engage even the most reluctant readers.

Colors and Shapes
Red, Red, Red!
Learning shapes and colors may well be a young child’s first educational endeavor. Although recognizing objects as red or blue, round or square might seem like child’s play, it’s actually integral to a young child’s cognitive development, and sets the stage for math concepts from sorting and patterning to geometry, and beyond! During this hour, we will color, sing, read, and play games- all while learning about the color red. You will have several more activities to do with your child as an extension including crafts, cooking, and additional games. This is a great introduction to school and learning for young children.

GET READY FOR KINDERGARTEN
As a teacher, one of the things I’m often asked is
"How do I know if my child is ready for Kindergarten?” For twenty years, I taught Pre-K children all that they needed to know for Kindergarten. I am now retired, but I still want to share my knowledge with others! Get Ready For Kindergarten has helped me rediscover my joy of teaching and given me the ability to share my passions and products with others. Explore my site, and enjoy.
